Last Friday, the Board of Trustees voted to expand the University’s 17-credit cap, allowing students to take the extra credit without paying the $1,575 fee. Beginning in the Fall 2019 semester, all undergraduate students, specifically those who are not enrolled in a special program, will be able to take up to 18 credits with no extra cost.
For many years, former and current Student Association leaders had advocated for this policy, placing an emphasis on affordability and academic flexibility without the financial burden for students of all background. The expansion of credit-hours cap is an important step forward in affirming students voices, and we are excited to continue our partnership with University administrators in improving the student experience.
The Student Association would like to thank former President Peak Sen Chua, former Executive Vice President Sydney Nelson, Chief of Cabinet Yannik Omictin, Academic Affairs Committee Chairwoman Finley Wetmore, and former Senator Will Raderman for their work in pushing the policy forward in the 2017-2018 academic year.
Rest assured that our advocacy does not end here, and there are still much to do as we seek to improve your student experience. Visit us this week during our community hours or office hours, and let us know how we can help to ensure you receive the support you need for a successful experience at GW.
As always, we are here to serve you!
Ashley Le and Ojani Walthurst
President and Executive Vice President
